If you have ever visited a website and as you are scrolling down the page you may notice that a background image appears to stay in place. That is Parallax.
Originlate 16th century (also in the general sense ‘fact of seeing wrongly’): from French parallaxe, from Greek parallaxis ‘a change’, from parallassein ‘to alternate’, based on allassein ‘to exchange’ (from allos ‘other’).
Parallax has become a popular design element. It creates a sense of depth on a website and when not overused is quite nice.
The section below has a parallax effect. If you scroll down slowly you should see that the background moves at a different speed than the front facing text.
